It was Japan that nuked US in World War II  and the Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi was assassinated on October 30, 1948, are just two factual errors in Social Science English medium textbook for Standard 8 published by the Gujarat Council of Educational Research and Training ( GCERT).Clicking the mouse will get an answer to any question in this age of information, such errors can not be accepted.

English medium schools in the state of Gujarat, about 50 thousand students are studying this book. The two parts of the book is devoted to Gandhi. Mahatma Gandhi Ashrams in his first satyagraha in Ahmedabad in May 1925 (instead of 1915) has developed a wrong.

A total of 59 of the 124 pages in the book such errors, spelling errors were found more than a hundred names of revolutionaries and reformers.

Names like EV Ramaswamy Naicker (Periyaar), Pandita Rambai, Veerasalingam Pantulu, Henry Derozio, Ishwarchand Vidyasagar and Keshub Chandrasen  have been conveniently ignored.

However, Gujarat State School Book Club’s  executive president Nitin Bethany said,”I have been told that there are many errors. We are trying to bring out an errors list and publish it on the internet. We cannot recall the books at this stage. But we give an assurance that we will correct the mistakes,”.Till then, one only hopes that the teachers or the students are smart enough to spot the errors and rectify them for themselves. Otherwise, one whole class would end up misguided and misled.
