The meeting is likely to trigger a wash of political speculation, given that national elections are just weeks away and Mr Alagiri’s very public estrangement from his father, M Karunanidhi.
Mr Alagiri, 63, has said he is considering launching his own party, but will take a final call after two months, which means he will sit out the national election. He was not included in the list of DMK candidates that was released earlier this week by his father.
Mr Alagiri used to represent Madurai in Parliament. In January, he was suspended from the DMK after a lengthy campaign devoted to undermining his younger brother, MK Stalin, who has been chosen by their father as his political successor.
