Police identified the victim as Omveer, a moneylender in Mirapur village of the district.
“BJP leader Omveer was a moneylender. He was shot dead by unknown assailants and his gun was also stolen,” Rakesh Jolly, SP (Crime), said.
One news report said Omveer, 40, had fired back at the assailants with his revolver.
The killing comes days after a BJP leader was similarly murdered in Gautam Budh Nagar district.
Motorcycle-riding assailants had on Saturday night pumped five bullets into Vijay Pandit in Dadri area.
The BJP had blamed the Uttar Pradesh government for the murder.
Party spokesperson Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi had said there was “no law and order in Uttar Pradesh”.
