The Indian fishermen are reportedly contemplating forcing themselves into Sri Lankan waters on August 2 to protest Sri Lankan Navy’s arrest of Indians.
“The security forces will act like they have always performed their duties,” military spokesperson Brigadier Ruwan Wanigasuriya said.
“They (the Indians) have also in the past threatened similar action. They even threatened to land in Kachchathivu,” Wanigasuriya said.
He said the planned action was nothing new. The Indian fishermen breach the International Maritime Boundary Line (IMBL) almost daily, he said.
Meanwhile, the 50 Indian fishermen who had been arrested yesterday were produced in court today and ordered to be kept under remand custody till August 12.
Despite several attempts of negotiations to end the dispute of fishermen between the two nations, the matter remains far from being resolved.
