He was planning to carry out a ‘Twin Tower’ kind of aerial attacks on Chennai’s prominent buildings. He also said that he underwent training in flying aircraft in Chennai.
Tamim Ansari, a Pakistani spy, was arrested in Trichy in 2012 by Central Intelligence agencies. Zakir Hussain, another Pakistani spy, was arrested from Chennai by the ‘Q’ branch of the Tamil Nadu Police.
In the meantime, central intelligence agencies arrested another prominent culprit named Arun Selvarasan from an apartment in Muthamizh Nagar in Saligramam. Arun, who came to Chennai in 2011, has been staying at the apartment on rent and had also been running an event-management firm so that his activities don’t arouse any suspicion.
Arun had visited the entire city and had taken photos of military installations, U.S. Embassy and the State Secretariat besides the Nuclear Plant in Kalpakkam and had sent all those photos and data about them via e-mail to Santhe, a Lankan working at the Pakistan High Commission in Colombo. Police interrogation with Arun revealed plans to carry out various kinds of attacks on Chennai.
Arun informed the Police that he underwent aircraft-flying training so that a ‘Twin Tower’ kind of attack can be carried out against prominent Govt. buildings and installations in Chennai for which he was paid a sum of Rs.2 crores.
