An AIADMK release said Jayalalithaa received Jaitley, “warmly. It was a courtesy call which lasted for 40 minutes”, it added.
According to reports, there were no special security arrangements made for the high-profile meeting nor were there any media alerts ahead of the meeting.
The meeting comes in the wake of the Centre’s move to drum up support for ordinances, including coal block allocation in a likely joint parliamentary session of the two Houses.
In the Lok Sabha, AIADMK is the second largest opposition party after Congress with 37 MPs.
