Former Singapore prime minister is critically ill

The Republic’s first Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew remains critically ill in the Intensive Care Unit of Singapore General Hospital, the Prime Minister’s Office said on Thursday (Mar 19).

In its previous update on Wednesday afternoon, the PMO said Mr Lee’s condition has “deteriorated further” and he remains “critically ill” in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

Mr Lee has been in hospital since Feb 5, when he was admitted for severe pneumonia.

On Mar 17, the PMO said Mr Lee’s condition has worsened due to an infection, and he is on antibiotics.
