Microsoft to introduce affordable Lumia Smartphones

Microsoft is likely to introduce its recently announced Lumia 640 and Lumia 640XL smartphones in India on April 7.

The company has started sending out media invites with a tagline “Inspiration doesn’t only work 9 to 5!” for its event on Tuesday. While the invite does not explicitly mention as to what the company has up its sleeves for the upcoming event, it hints at the launch of Microsoft’s new affordable smartphones in India.

The Microsoft Lumia 640 smartphone sports a 5-inch HD display and is packed with a 1.2 GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor and 1GB of RAM.

It includes 8GB of internal storage which is expandable up to 128GB via a microSD card. The phone also comes with 15GB of free cloud storage on OneDrive.

The smartphone has an 8-megapixel rear camera with flash, a 1-megapixel front-facing camera for video-calling and is powered with a 2,500mAh battery.

The Lumia 640 XL, on other hand, has a display size of 5.7-inches and is powered with a 1.2GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor. The phone features 1GB of RAM and is loaded with Windows Phone 8.1 and the Lumia Denim Update. The phone comes pre-installed with Office applications – Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and OneNote.

The Lumia 640 XL has a 13-megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss optics and a 5-megapixel front-facing camera and is powered with a 3,000 mAh battery.

Both the smartphones can be upgraded to Microsoft’s next OS, Windows 10. The two phones were unveiled at MWC 2015 early March.
